And the CV reads.....
Journalism is the only thing I studied formally (well and computer studies. I actually went to a college to learn about using the computer and all that).
I wanted to study journalist to become an investigative journalist, thanks to Debora. I watched her on TV and If I was not doing that I was reading Love Life Magazines (I had stacks of them, all the way from Johannesburg). I enjoyed doing both. I'm my high school years I loved writing more and more, and I excelled at it.
I got introduced to the Hip Hop culture through music first, that and the clothing were the only elements of the culture I got exposed to initially though my brothers.
Next thing I knew I was a part of the culture/ movement and loving it. I bought music, attended sessions, and for a long part of my life dressed like a dude, yes!!
Anyway. I then realized I could write about this thing that I love so much. I started looking around for writing "jobs". My first ever article to be published was on #Rapbuzz around MAy 2012. Hype Magazine went on to publish some of my opinion letters that I had been sending to them, I progressed from that to writing for the Mag Online.
I have also written for publications like Headpage, SA Hip Hop, Jucy Africa, TheNASHmag, YNotCulture and SA Hip Hop Headz. I have also written a few short stories, of which one was published on DRUM Magazine around 2010.
Besides that, with which comes with being part of the culture is hustling, I serve as a PR personnel, Brand Manager and Consultant and Social Media Coordinator/Manager.... and I am a Mother!
I used to manage a hip hop group called Corner Joint Fam from Pretoria under a company we formed "Under1Umbrella" that was doing PR, Management and Events. We helped elevate their stance in the game. I worked with a lot of upcoming artists on the come up, whether is was though organizing sessions, writing their bios/ profiles or just supporting them. I somehow made it my business to help where I can. I joined and headed a local online magazine in Pretoria called "TheNASHmag". It grew gained momentum and was at some a lot of peoples favorite magazine.
Anyway, the will to help is still there. I am still writing, still part of the culture, still ambitious AF. Under my company Tan89 Media, I am still working with great artists. We do PR, Brand Strategy and Photography.
I hope one day to publish a book, see Tan89 become a success, see Oracle be great and see myself growing happy and successful..... and meet J Cole :)
That is my CV for now..... Thank you for reading.
