Hip Hop is..?

The context in which hip hop is defined is so broad and leaves room for confusion.
Hip hop or Rap? And which in the two defines and incorporates the culture truely? The graffiti, the various dance moves, the clothing, and the language and the music and all that is in the umbrella of this culture. I often wonder if people know that hip hop is a representative of a culture. they seem to refer to "hip hop" as a music genre.

Hip hop is too broad for many to grab its actual definition and through time many aspects have been attached to hip hop. Those who’ve been around the culture since the beginning know or have some idea as to what hip hop is and they were there through the birthing, nurturing and through the process of hip hop and have remained to see it grow but what about those who have not seen the light? What about the newbies? the amakip kip culture the colourful ones?  Are they the ones that will bring about the death of hip hop or do they have people to skul them and feed them the hip hop history?

I wonder every time I hear someone talking “hip hop”. What is hip hop about these days? I mean what does today’s society define as hip hop and I am sure this debate has been boiling for a sec but still haven’t got it.

How would a young lad of today define hip hop in his own context and understanding? Would it be in the context of what initially it was or what it has come to be? Would it be hip hop is about expressing your emotions, releasing anger and frustrations and the anger and the pain? Or about being a gangster and having  “street cred” or the bling, swagger, making money and flossing about the big mansions and marc you aint got or do have

......But flip the coin: some say its the revolution of the generation, that no thing can stay the same forever, that hip hop is not dying just evolving......I just hope that the new generation hip hop kids will still have a chance to learn about Prophets of da City and Ready D, about the beginers of this thing or even about the Dj Azuhls, about the African hip hop culture...not just "hip hop music"
